Upside Down Cats

"You finally figured out the girl in your heart isn't the girl in your dreams. Some people don't figure it out all their lives."

This is a quote from the movie, If Lucy Fell, written by Eric Schaeffer and Tony Spiridakis.

 

When I read this, I was immediately reminded of the times when I've realized that I'm not - strictly speaking - Scott's type. When he's mentioned the girls and women he thought were attractive in his formative and "pre-me" years, I am always struck by the fact that I don't resemble any of them in any way...Christie Brinkley, Raquel Welch, Cheryl Ladd or Judy Landers...

(sigh...)


It seems to me there are two possible reasons for the fact that he wound up with a girl who looks nothing like his fantasy girls...One, his tastes have changed - a lot.




Or, two, he is in love with something in addition to my physical appearance, which makes me perfectly suited for him. Like the quote from the movie...I'm the girl in his heart.



 



 

 

 

Of course, I choose to believe the latter is true.

Saturday night we were thrilled to catch the movie Stranger Than Fiction on cable. It is one that we put on our "want to see" list as soon as we heard about it. There are very few films we feel warrant the effort and inconvenience to bother seeing in the movie theater. Generally we only go to the theater for the benefit of the "big screen effect." When we do go to the theater, more times than not, we end up walking back to the car afterwards talking not about the movie, but about the annoying people in the theater, or the disgusting fact that we just paid $8 each to sit through a half hour of commercials before the movie!...So with few exceptions we wait for movies we want to see to show up on one of the movie channels. Besides, our chairs are far more comfortable, and our popcorn is much tastier!

Stranger Than Fiction is one of those quality movies that pleasantly surprised me by being even better than I anticipated! I don't ruin movies for others by giving away too much information about them, so even if you haven't seen it, feel free to keep reading...no spoilers here!

"Shit happens. It’s the way we clean it up that matters."

I heard this on the television show Saving Grace recently...I thought it was an excellent mindset to adopt!

I need reminders like this in my life to help me accept that although I can't control everything that happens to me, I can control how I deal with it. So when misfortune comes along, instead of feeling powerless or angry or frustrated over circumstances, it's up to me to use the experience as an opportunity for personal growth. The important thing is to find what can be gained or learned when given what life hands me.

That is what this quote means to me.

Somebody Get Me A Mop!

Here is - hopefully - the first of many installments of "Bitchin' Broads," a collection of writing about some extraordinary women I have discovered.

Occasionally I come across a quote or a snippet of information about a person, and I become intrigued. With my curiosity piqued, the quest to learn more begins...As I grow into my maturity, I seek to fill in these holes in my knowledge, hopefully creating a more well-rounded, interesting me. In the words of my first subject: "The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity." - Dorothy Parker, (attributed). So, since - according to Ms Parker - I am incurable, I shall pursue my 'disease' in search for an understanding of this most fascinating woman.

"If we don't change direction soon, we'll end up where we're going." - Professor Irwin Corey.

I hadn't heard Professor Irwin Corey's name in decades! This Morning I was delighted to read this quote on The Quotations Page and be transported to "back in the day..."

No one my age knows who Professor Irwin Corey is...As the much-youngest kid in my family, and a kid whose friends didn't live nearby, I watched a lot of television in the '70's. Sure, I watched cartoons, but there wasn't any children's programming at certain times of the day, so I would watch what was on, or what the older members of the household were watching. Many times it was The Merv Griffin Show, The Mike Douglas Show or various game shows. This is where I became familiar with Professor Irwin Corey. He is a comedian who pretended to be a whacky professor. If I had to describe his brand of comedy, I would say he was an intelligent clown, playing with words and concepts...Even as a kid I thought he was hilarious! Maybe that is part of the reason I appreciate cerebral humor, as opposed to slapstick. I understand he was born in 1914 - that means he's 93 - I'm so glad this comedic treasure is still in our midst!
