George On My Mind
George Carlin and I share a birthday - well, the day, not the year. That fact has always made me feel a special kinship with him, as fellow members of the May 12th Club. It's silly, I know, but I feel the same connection to Emilio Estevez, Katherine Hepburn, Yogi Berra, Burt Bacharach, Tom Snyder, Stephen Baldwin, Bruce Boxleitner, Billy Squier, Gabriel Byrne, our dear friend Stacy and, of course, Florence Nightingale. It never ceases to amaze me how much I have in common with each and every one of these intelligent, charming and talented people!
George has been among my favorite comedians - and public people - all my life. What a multi-faceted talent! His blend of sharp, insightful and fearless comedy makes me laugh and think simultaneously. He is responsible for a large part of my sense of humor and world view. It should come as no surprise that he appears on the guest list for my fantasy dinner party along with a plethora of other fascinating people.

Too Cute! 6/3/08
Today's installment of Too Cute! is compliments of the two-year-old girl in my daycare. She is extremely verbal, even considering her age and gender! We commonly have riveting conversations, so I am accustomed to her being able to express herself with great facility.
But today she just made me laugh... Continue reading "Too Cute! 6/3/08" »

My Glamorous Profession
Being a daycare provider, I hear many interesting things come out of the mouths of the children for whom I care. Recently the children have provided an abundance of verbal gems! I thought they'd make fun reading for a Monday. Continue reading "My Glamorous Profession" »

Too Cute! 3/6/08
I seem to have a never-ending supply of cute quotes from my little daycare children!
In today's installment of Too Cute! we find a three-year-old girl playing with a doll and combing her hair. Apparently, the doll's hair was tangled - in knots - if you will.
With a determined look on her face and comb in hand, I heard her declare, "She's got nuts in her hair!"

I'm Gonna Go To Daycare Provider Hell For This!
The only real job I've ever had is child daycare provider... In fact, I've been practicing at this career for over twenty years now!
No, I don't believe I'm insane for choosing to do this for what is - so far - my life's work. Some days, however, I feel that the job itself may just cause insanity...at least of the temporary kind!
Sometimes the only way to combat the stress of dealing with children - other people's children whom you can't stuff in a closet - is to laugh...and laugh...and laugh some more...

Too Cute! 2/7/08
Today is the third birthday of a little girl in my daycare. This morning she was playing with one of our teddy bears who had developed a small rip in his shoulder seam and was losing some stuffing. When she first saw the stuffing, I heard her say something about "germs." She apparently had it in her mind that the stuffing bits that were escaping from the bear were "germs."
I didn't give it much thought, though, until she came up to me with a handful of stuffing, announcing, "Gina, I don't like Germans...they're yucky!"
This was disappointing news for me, because both of my grandmothers were of German descent...!
Update...the aforementioned teddy bear has received eight stitches to close his wound by the extremely competent stuffed animal emergency room surgeon-on-call, Dr. Gina.
He is expected to make a complete recovery.

Too Cute! (1/14/08)
It's been a while since any of my daycare children said anything that cracked me up, but our funny-drought ended this morning, so my Too Cute! feature returneth...
A little girl who will turn three years old next month was singing The Farmer in the Dell and this is what I heard...
"The farmer takes a life...!"
We've got to stop watching Law and Order at quiet time...!!!

Synchronicity
Can you believe I've been posting throughout the month of November about things for which I am thankful, and I haven't mentioned my Sweetie yet? Well, today's the day, and it only took until twenty days into National Blog Posting Month to do it!
There is actually a good reason for this omission...I was purposely trying to avoid writing that I am thankful for Scott.

Daddy's Little Girl
I'm writing about things for which I am thankful throughout November, also known as National Blog Posting Month. Today on day nineteen of NaBloPoMo, I am in a reflective mood. Looking through family photos earlier today brought back a flood of evocative memories. Many of the photos reminded me of my dad, who passed away ten years ago.
The photos have brought to the forefront of my mind that I am thankful for my dad.

Too Cute! 10/15/07
In another installment of Too Cute, we find a 4 1/2-year-old girl using - or rather, misusing - a common expression to great comic result...(Well, at least it made me chuckle!)
I believe she had heard the expression, "Ready as I'll ever be."
When she repeated it, it came out, "Ready as a lever bee."
I tried to correct her (in between my fits of laughter) but she would not be convinced that she was wrong...silly me, what do I know about familiar phrases anyway?!
So what's a lever bee?
