Perfect Circles
About a year ago I wrote about a particularly harrowing encounter with "Spiderzilla." At that time I expressed my revulsion for spiders in no uncertain terms
...but then today, along came a spider, and...
All right, I'll admit it... from a distance... nature is pretty awesome.
I discovered this intricately engineered spider web out the daycare window this morning. I hope you can see by the photo that it is a perfect circle.
It resembles one of those "large format CDs" you may be familiar with. I wonder what songs it would play?

For the record, (unintended but clever pun, no?) while I've come to admit that nature can be cool, I STILL HATE SPIDERS...!!!
Especially big ones.

Perhaps Jane Austen articulated today's installment best when she wrote: "One cannot fix one's eyes on the commonest natural production without finding food for a rambling fancy."

I don't like spiders, either. One notable exception, a large yellow and black "banana" spider took residence outside my picture window in the breakfast room when we lived in Lake Charles. She was so beautiful and she wove an intricate web like the one you've captured in the pictures. We watched her grow from little to big enough to call the bug guy. Her leg span was almost as big as my hand. And do you know, when the bug guy came, he didn't kill her, he toted her away to parts unknown in a jar, with web parts attached.

I'm still marveling over Elle's comment above and that enormous spider she described. Your list is impressive. At least I can figure out what's what on it! And it is definitely close to spider season here. I've seen my first orb weaver, and will watch it grow like so many of the others that we'll begin to see. Damp autumn mornings are just around the corner!
