I was reading a piece on Mr Besilly's One Man's Highway blog today entitled, Kitty Wigs Is Open For Biznazz.
I wholeheartedly agree with Mr Besilly's assessment of the people who advocate these fashion wigs for cats. He accuses those who anthropomorphize cats to this extent of absolute lunacy! Accessorizing your cat as if she/he were a person says far more about your emotional stability - or lack thereof - than it does about your love for your cat!
His post has inspired a mini-rant of my own...

What's Cookin'? (1/6/08)
Finally - I am returning with my What's Cookin'? feature. Of course I cooked over the holidays, but our whole schedule was off, so I found it difficult to stick to a plan, or even to a plan to make a plan. I cooked our traditional Hoppin' John which is supposed to inspire good luck in the New Year...not that I'm a believer in superstition, but it couldn't hurt to play along, right? Hoppin' John is a southern dish...I always wonder how I ever got in the habit of making it...I'm not even from the southern part of New Jersey!
Anyway, I'm back on the horse, planning meals in advance for the upcoming week. So here's some of what I'll be cooking up this week...
Chicken & Andouille Sausage over Rice, Mixed Greens Salad
Eggs over Cheese Grits, Topped with Sausage Gravy & Oranges & Blueberries
Grilled Turkey & Swiss Cheese Sandwiches, Creamy Potato Soup & Coleslaw
Bacon-Wrapped Chicken Breasts Stuffed with Cornbread Dressing & Oven-Roasted Broccoli, Cauliflower & Carrots
Spaghetti with Meat Sauce & Mixed Greens Salad
Roast Beef, Mashed Potatoes & Garlic Sauteed Escarole
Beef Taco Salad in a Tortilla Bowl
Beef Pot Pies
Eggs In A Whole Wheat Bread Frame, Sausage Patties, Hash Brown Potatoes
Deep Dish Pizza, Mixed Greens Salad
It's going to be a challenging week ahead...my first five-day work week since the week before Christmas. Let me tell you, I could sure get used to those four-day weekends!

Upside Down Cat Du Jour (1/5/08)

Here's a sight to make you smile...
If I didn't know better, I would say it was our Desi as a kitten...
Thanks, Cousin Rachel, for sharing the December page of your cat calendar!
This is too cute for words, so I won't detract from your enjoyment of this adorable spectacle with any...

Shall We Dance?
The daycare kids and I are dancing away our post-holiday stress at our Friday Afternoon Dance Party.
Yippee!
(The word "Yippee" in response to the words "Dance Party" is a Jack's Big Music Show reference, in case you are interested...)
But even if you're not, you may like to join us as we get down and get funky...

And Now A Word From The Past
Last week the daycare children dug out an old videotape, The Big Comfy Couch. Don't worry, I will spare you the details of its compelling and thought-provoking plot...
The salient point is that while the tape was on, I heard a word I haven't heard since I was seven or eight years old...

My Wishes For The New Year
I figure it's more productive to begin a new project or year with some goals in mind...
So rather than simply wishing for generic happiness in the New Year, I've come up with a list of more concrete aspirations to hope for this year...
