I was reading a piece on Mr Besilly's
One Man's Highway blog today entitled,
Kitty Wigs Is Open For Biznazz.
I
wholeheartedly agree with Mr Besilly's assessment of the people who advocate these
fashion wigs for cats. He accuses those who anthropomorphize cats to this extent of absolute lunacy! Accessorizing your cat as if she/he were a person says far more about your emotional stability - or lack thereof - than it does about your love for your cat!
His post has inspired a mini-rant of my own...

How pathetic! Obviously those who make and/or purchase these wigs have no respect for, or understanding of, cats. If they did, they wouldn't promote the idea of treating these sentient, sensitive creatures as
toys. If you really have the need to see "hair" on something resembling an animal, Dude, get a Chia Pet!
If you want to show your affinity for your cat, spay or neuter her/him, get her/him regular veterinary care and don't let her/him run loose outdoors! In order to know she/he is adored, all a cat needs is our attention, our patience and some unconditional freedom to be her/himself - like any member of the family! I'm certain a fashion wig does not enter into the "How much am I loved?' equation!
To put it as kindly as possible, these people's priorities may be
misordered... I believe that although expensive accessories may be the way to some shallow people's hearts, cats are far too intelligent and principled to have their affections bought!
Cats are wonderful companions worthy of our respect. Cats are perfect
as is...they do not need - or appreciate - ornamentation! To the right is our
Abbey proving beyond a doubt that she is perfectly adorned
au naturel!
I'm so glad you're reading my blog! Thanks for leaving a comment!
Spaying/neutering is the only way to prevent a world so full of unwanted cats. It is always so sad for me to see strays wandering around our neighborhood! We may already qualify as the "Crazy Cat People on the Corner" but I would take them all in if I could!
Your volunteer work with the humane society is truly admirable! More people should follow your lead and put their good intentions into action. You're definitely one of the good guys for giving these pets who need someone to care the help they need!
Thanks also for the excellent upside down cat picture...it made my day!
I hope you keep on reading my blog. I love getting feedback!
