I always think of New Year's Eve/Day as a birthday party...a birthday party for the World.
With that in mind, I get reflective...like I do on my own birthday...
On my birthdays I try to be thankful for the years that got me here, the opportunity - if only for a day - to celebrate myself, and the chance - hopefully - for some more good tomorrows.

I find it interesting that although many people think of their own birthday as a negative thing...a mark of their personal aging and decline, when we celebrate the World's birthday, it is often done with great fanfare involving silly hats, parties...you know, festivities! Or, in our case tonight, a cozy evening at home with my
favorite person, special food and a little wine. Anyway you play it out, it's a celebration, demonstrating how glad we are for another year, another chance to live our life, January through December.
Maybe we need to examine why another year for the world is considered cause for celebration, while often people regard their own increasing years with disgust and shame...
Whether we're marking our own age or the age of the World, it is merely a way of telling time:
"My, how the year has flown...!" It's the same year...ours and the World's, so why not make it about the positive...? What if, instead of waking up the morning after our next birthday cursing that we're blankety-blank years old, that we treat it as our own personal New Year's Day, resolving to try to make the year ahead better for ourselves, for our families and for our world...
That's
my resolution for my New Year...
I'm looking forward to beginning my first full year of blogging...I'm so glad you'll be along for the ride!
Here's to making a beautiful 2008!
