Here I am back to my (somewhat) normal routine following a few days of holiday R&R. I closed my daycare Monday and Tuesday for a long-overdue (and well-deserved) long weekend.
I really needed that!
It was the best Christmas gift I could have received!
The four days were a lovely combination of relaxation and diversion.
First and foremost on my list of
Things to Do was sleep late. You may recall from a
previous post how much I want and need to do that as often as possible. Mission accomplished! The ability to wake up naturally and work - or not - according to my own whim was exactly what the doctor ordered!
It certainly wasn't
all lounging around, though...
Once I'd caught up on my rest, I had energy to tackle something I've been wanted to do for many years...

Remember my
inspirational dream I had recently about organizing my spare room? Well, over the course of my four days off (plus a couple afternoons last week) I made my dream come true!
I am enormously proud of myself!
The big - and pleasant - surprise to me was how quickly the room got cleared of junk, dusted, arranged and decorated. Although it was disastrous (think tornado aftermath...) somehow it all fell into place in just those few days. I even did a thorough vacuuming and steam-cleaned the carpet!
I was far too embarrassed -
mortified even - to take a
before photo, but here are some proudly offered
afters...!
Now I have access to our clutter-free treadmill. I brought up all those movies we have on videotape to watch while I use the treadmill, too...anything to motivate myself to do my 45 minutes! So no more excuses...I begin my Tuesday - Thursday - and one day on the weekend treadmill routine tomorrow. Why wait until the New Year to do what I can begin at 5:30 AM tomorrow...? I have space to exercise and practice yoga. I also have a place to sit and play Nintendo (
another stress-relieving pastime of mine). And should the mood to use my sewing machine strike -
unlikely as that is - well, I can access that now, too.

All that is great, but the best part is that I have a place to display memorabilia, collections and photos! I was saddened to think of all those memories and treasures packed away, unseen, in a box. I love when my home reflects what is important to me. It's good for me to live among reminders of the happy parts of my life. It keeps me focused on the positive.
Here's what I'm calling the Gina Shrine...
It still needs some paint touch-ups, and there is a small stack of things to go into
Scott's spare room if - no -
when he gets his set up the way he wants it.
Otherwise, though, this is my ideal room, and it is done.
So, in four short days I got a new attitude,
and a new room!
Yay!!!
Oh, the things you find when you clean up...! This was on the front of a card I had received and saved in one of the endless piles in my spare room which I recently decluttered . Apparently, long before I started Upside Down Cats, the blog, I was a
