My darling
Scott is the luckiest guy in the world. He's the "ninth caller" who wins the trip to Boston. He's the one who wins the iPod for filling out the online survey. He's the one who drops his business card in the bowl and wins free restaurant dinners for a year...He's won more concert tickets than anyone I've ever heard of, and dozens of other things throughout the years. His astounding luckiness seems to work only when there is no financial investment. So, unfortunately, his luck does not parlay into winning the lottery...
Me? Well,
never,
ever, so much as a door prize....
I always say that I had to save up all my luck to spend all at once to win Scott. I know, "Awwwwwwwwwww..." But you know I think that it's true!

Anyway, on Saturday, Scott and I walked into our hair salon for haircuts to a round of applause from the staff. "Yea!" they shouted, "Our Guest of the Day is here!" We looked around, then at each other - thoroughly confused - then back at the half dozen stylists and receptionists gathered around the front desk. Cheryl, our greeter, came up to me and congratulated me for having been chosen "
Guest of the Day." Sure enough, my name had been prominently posted on the board! As
Guest of the Day, I was treated to an upgrade in my services...Hurray!
What a wonderful surprise! I chose the paraffin dip for my pitifully dry, over-washed hands...how lovely! If you haven't had the pleasure, I highly recommend a paraffin dip! Your hands are dipped in hot wax, then allowed to rest, encased in said wax for ten luxurious minutes. The wax is then pulled off, leaving your hands very soft and supple! Finally, you are treated to a hand massage...mmm! It is an extremely relaxing experience!
What did I do to deserve the distinction of
Guest of the Day...?
Nothing knowingly, as I wasn't aware this contest even existed. All I'd done is make this appointment at my last appointment. Then they held a drawing from all those who did likewise for this day, and they happened to choose my name.
Well, that's not entirely the whole story...
Cheryl recounted a funny occurrence around the choosing of my name..."Originally we held the drawing for today and another guest had been chosen, but when I returned to the computer, I realized that I'd forgotten to include a name," she told me. "That wouldn't have been fair to the excluded guest, so we voided the first drawing and held another with
all the names."
That's how I won...kind of the second choice for winner... Do you think I'm always just one away from winning, but that this is the first time I caught a break? I don't know if that makes me feel better or worse...
I wonder if you can guess whose name was chosen in that first drawing...
That's right...
my darling Scott! They were kind enough to treat him as first runner up and upgrade his service also to include a Tea Tree Scalp Massage, which he says was marvelous.
It's really no surprise to me at all...
Even when I won, I lost first!
I feel I've cheated the cosmos which has ordained that I am not to win...
ever.
The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese. Steven Wright On Saturday Gina and I went for our haircuts and the coolest thing happened, we walked in and... well, Gina's already written about it... So that's a great sto

As I have mentioned before, sleep is one of my favorite things. The problem is, I never seem to get enough of it. Back in my dark days I began having insomnia problems...when you don't feel safe, it is difficult to reach a relaxed state in which to surren
