I nearly couldn't get to my computer today, day eighteen of
NaBloPoMo, to post my daily installment of
things for which I am thankful. I was being held captive by a thirteen pound lump of fur named Desi, sitting on my lap. Now that I'm finally free of her persistent purring presence, I can write about how much
I am thankful for
kitty companionship.
We are the proud parents of four feline children:
Abbey,
Beemer,
Cooper and
Desi. They are unbelievably dear to us. I can't imagine home feeling like home without them.

Some people say that they don't like cats. They believe that cats are unfriendly and aloof. All I can say is that ours are not. (See Desi being aloof in the photo to the right?) Our cats (to varying degrees, of course) love being around people, and especially their Mom and Dad. They may have preferences in those with whom they choose to associate, but I have to give them credit for having and exercising their free will. What would be the significance of their company if they were indiscriminate? They seem to sense who they need and who needs them at a given time.
I gain a lot sharing my life with cats. Cats are loyal companions, to us and to each other. It is just as heartwarming to me to see a couple of them snuggled up together as it is to have one or two snuggled up with me. We are all good friends to each other. I like to think they get as much pleasure and comfort from me as I get from them.
I am delighted to know that we have given these creatures a good, safe home where they are loved and respected. They are capable of giving so much to us in return. Under our roof they can really develop their own personalities. They are a never-ending source of entertainment. Not a day goes by without one of them doing something that cracks us up! It could be Abbey washing her paws in the water dish. Or Beemer, who rolls over and plays dead when you point your finger at her and say, "Bang!" Cooper brings us "gifts"...usually our socks, shoes or stuffed animals from the daycare. Then there's Desi who "stands guard" the top of the stairs all night, but rolls over for a belly pet the second anyone walks down the hall.
Like any proud parent, I could go on and on about how wonderful our kitties are, but I have done that in previous posts, and I will continue to write about them, because, after all, they are my kids...I just wanted to give an overview of the importance of our cats in my life. It is no surprise that
I am thankful for each and every one of our kitty friends.
How was that Abbey...did I do a good job?
