I was digging through old photos today and I found treasure!
I am the youngest child in my family of 7 children by many years. I am 21 years younger than my oldest sister and 12 years younger than my youngest sister. Consequently, I became an aunt before I'd turned 4 years old.
Here's a picture of
Aunt Gina and my niece, Patty, sitting in my Grandma Bessie's emerald green rocking chair. It was situated front and center before our TV (so she could watch her 'Stories' during the day and her Westerns in the evening!) In case you are wondering what Patty is chewing on, it is a turquoise plastic iron, which was filled with very nice smelling bubble bath...and I complain that kids toys today are weird!
Although it's amusing to see Patty with the same "follically challenged" head that all my own baby pictures revealed, and those stylin' footie PJs on myself, the thing that touches me most about this photo is seeing Grandma Bessie's chair after all these years! I remember a lot of sitting on Grandma Bessie's lap in that chair! Since the photo doesn't show the floor in front of the chair, I don't know if it was taken before or after the
Ice Cream Incident...I'd parked my bowl of nearly melted ice cream on the floor in front of Grandma Bessie's chair while I ran

Grandma returned to her chair before I'd returned from the bathroom, and, never expecting to find a bowl of melted chocolate ice cream on the floor in front of her chair, stepped into it! It wasn't a pretty site...Poor Grandma...her shoe and stocking were covered with ice cream! I felt so stupid and guilty! It left a nasty stain on the carpet that we never did completely get out... a constant reminder of the incident!
Here's another photo of the chair with My Favorite Lady herself. This was the first picture I took with my first camera! Grandma insisted I wait to take her picture until she'd bathed, done her hair and put on a nice dress...
Hmm...I wonder where I ever would have picked up my fastidious grooming standards...especially when cameras are involved?
My daycare children are all abuzz about their Halloween costumes as they gear up for the big day. They keep asking me what my costume is going to be...they don't get the joke when I tell them I will be wearing a sweatshirt, sweatpants and gym shoes...the

Yesterday my NaBloPoMo offering discussed my relationship with my family. Before I wander too far from the subject of family, I want to include my favorite lady in the whole world in my list of things for which I am thankful. Here on day 27 of National Bl
